Snow Storm, Rydal Water

Heavy snow in the central Lake District made for tricky driving (and parking). I headed for Rydal Water and used a short telephoto lens to isolate this composition of the lone oak tree on a tiny island by the lakeshore, with a foreground of reeds. Both a lens hood and an umbrella were necessary to keep snow off the front element of my lens. I liked the almost monochrome feel to the scene and the way falling snow attenuates visibility across the lake, making the tree stand out. I returned to my car to find the road back to Keswick blocked by snow, necessitating an 80-mile detour via Kendal and the M6.
