Osorno Volcano at Sunrise

Osorno Volcano in Chile’s Lake District is an almost perfect cone, snow-capped even in summer. The base is largely surrounded by forest, which obstructs clear views. I used online aerial photographs to identify clearings caused by glacial outwash fans and hiked amongst the trees to reach one. When I got there I found a beautiful foreground of flowering broom, so I returned the following morning before sunrise. As the first rays of sun kissed the top of the volcano, a little cloud formed on its summit.
