Short-eared Owl Diving for Prey

Short-eared owls are winter visitors to southern England. Around five individuals regularly patrol this field of rough grassland in the Cotswolds. Late afternoon sun gives a pleasing glow as this one dives into grass for a mouse or vole. 600mm lens plus 1.4x teleconverter; 1/1600th second at f/5.6 and ISO 400.
